Research on Electromagnetic Radiation Characteristics of Energetic Materials

During the explosion of energetic materials, electromagnetic interference is generated, which can affect normal operation surrounding electronic equipment. Therefore, an radiation measurement device based on a short-wave omnidirectional antenna and ultra-wideband was designed to measure generated by materials different masses, characteristics were obtained through data processing. The results showed that signal still be collected hundreds milliseconds after explosive detonated, continuous intermittent, phenomenon has not been found in this field at present. mass material had significant effect time-domain explosion: higher was, shorter delay response longer duration earlier peak appeared. frequency signals mainly concentrated below 100 MHz, energy most band 0~50 MHz. composition greatest influence spectral distribution, distribution produced explosives with compositions obvious specificity. intensity strong correlation distance from center, it significantly decreased as increased. structure detonation method changed geometrical motion pattern during explosion, resulting non-uniformity propagation.

This study indicated that multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)-epoxy composites can be used as effective lightweight shielding materials. The measurement results showed that highest EMI SE of 23.4 dB at 8 GHz was obtained for nanocomposite with 1 wt% MWCNTs.
